Understand your ongoing costs

Choose hosting that fits your website

Compare shared hosting, Cloudflare, Vercel and Umbraco Cloud. Find the balance between annual cost, content editing and room to grow.

Annual hosting at a glance

These are VaniTech planning estimates in Australian dollars excluding GST, separate from your website build. Static hosting starts at $300 per year, with standard options up to $800. Umbraco shared hosting starts at $400 per year, Umbraco Cloud at $1,920, and high-traffic Umbraco Cloud at $12,000.

The amounts are our indicative customer hosting allowances, not the providers’ published prices or a guaranteed plan entitlement. We confirm the provider plan, usage, renewal cost and included services in your written quote. Higher usage or specialist requirements can exceed these starting allowances.

Static shared hosting — from $300 per year

Best for: a small brochure website or launch page with occasional content changes managed by VaniTech.

Pros: a low annual starting cost and a familiar hosting arrangement. Simple static pages need little server processing.

Cons: server resources are shared, so capacity and performance depend on the provider and other sites. Backups, support and restoration terms vary. There is no CMS editor; changing content is a separate service.

Cloudflare static hosting — from $300 per year

Best for: a static business website where fast delivery to visitors matters.

Pros: static content is delivered through Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare does not charge for static asset requests on Pages; VaniTech’s annual allowance covers our quoted hosting service rather than a claim that Cloudflare itself charges $300.

Cons: forms and other server functions have separate usage rules and may add costs. Static hosting does not provide an Umbraco editor or run the Umbraco CMS server. Data-location requirements need a service-by-service review.

Vercel static hosting — from $800 per year

Best for: a static website that benefits from previews and a development deployment workflow.

Pros: convenient preview deployments and tools for releasing website changes. A paid commercial plan can support a business website.

Cons: commercial sites cannot use Vercel’s personal Hobby plan. Paid plans have usage allowances and additional charges; team seats and add-ons can increase cost. It does not provide an Umbraco CMS server or content editor. The $800 starting allowance depends on the agreed paid plan and expected usage.

Hosting an editable Umbraco website

If your team needs to edit content, the quiz keeps Umbraco as the website platform. Choosing cheaper static hosting does not replace that requirement. Shared hosting here means a compatible host for the Umbraco application and its database.

Umbraco shared hosting — from $400 per year

Best for: a small editable business website with modest traffic and agreed resource limits.

Pros: the lowest Umbraco hosting allowance, while retaining the CMS editor. A compatible shared host can run the application and database without a larger Cloud subscription.

Cons: resource limits and provider support vary. Your quote must identify who handles CMS upgrades, security patches, backups and restores. Extra environments and advanced deployment workflows may require additional work. Campaign peaks or business-critical availability may need a stronger hosting arrangement.

Umbraco Cloud — from $1,920 per year

Best for: an editable site whose team wants managed infrastructure and structured deployment tools.

Pros: Umbraco manages its Azure hosting platform and provides deployment tools. Cloud supports automated minor and patch upgrades, backups and CDN features, subject to the selected plan.

Cons: a higher subscription allowance and plan resource quotas. Environments, caching controls and support depend on the plan. Custom-code testing, major upgrades and content maintenance still need responsibility and budget assigned.

High-traffic Umbraco Cloud — from $12,000 per year

Best for: large visitor volumes, campaign peaks or important customer journeys needing more capacity planning.

Pros: an allowance for a Cloud configuration sized around your traffic and operational needs, with agreed caching and monitoring.

Cons: substantially higher ongoing cost. We must assess peak demand, application and database load, availability targets and recovery requirements before confirming the plan. This is a VaniTech starting allowance, not a named provider tier, unlimited capacity or an uptime guarantee.

What the quiz recommends

  • Static website: compare the $300–$800 annual options. Choose a provider to see its starting allowance.
  • Small Umbraco website: start with shared hosting from $400 per year.
  • Umbraco with campaign spikes or growing traffic: the automatic recommendation moves to Cloud from $1,920 per year.
  • High-traffic Umbraco: the estimate uses Cloud from $12,000 per year and flags a capacity review, even if shared hosting was preferred.
  • Existing hosting, dedicated infrastructure, Australian data requirements or unusually busy static sites: request an operational quote rather than relying on the standard allowances.

Confirm what your annual quote includes

Your written quote should state provider fees, storage and traffic allowances, TLS setup, backup frequency and retention, restoration support, monitoring, renewal terms and who owns the hosting account. These details vary across options.

Website build work, domain registration, business mailboxes, extra usage, paid integrations, content changes and ongoing CMS maintenance are separate unless your quote explicitly includes them. Hosting alone does not add schema, AEO, a formal accessibility assessment or marketing services.

For Australian data requirements, review the website, database, form submissions, email and backups together; a hosting label alone cannot establish where every service stores data.
