Understand your website scope

Pages, templates and blocks

Choose your page and template counts, then reuse blocks across your website. Here is how we count the work in your quote.

What is a page?

A page is an individual destination on your website, usually with its own address. Home, About, Services, a specific service and Contact can be five pages. Changing the text on a page does not create a new page.

For the quote quiz, the page allowance is the number of public content pages VaniTech builds or populates for the initial release. It is a delivery allowance, not a claim that your CMS can only hold that many pages. Later content entry, migration and copywriting beyond the agreed scope are separate work.

What is a template?

A template is a reusable page layout: the structure that arranges the page content. Several pages can use the same template with different headings, text, images and blocks.

For example, About, Services and Contact can share a standard content template. Contact uses an enquiry-form block, while About uses text and team blocks. Different content does not automatically mean a different template.

In the quiz, a template type means one agreed reusable public-page layout. A new template is additional work when a page needs a structure or behaviour the included templates and blocks cannot support. Screen sizes such as mobile and desktop are responsive versions of the same template, not extra template types.

What is a block?

A block is a reusable section inside a page, such as a hero banner, text with an image, service cards, testimonials, an FAQ or an enquiry form. A template arranges those sections; the page supplies their content.

The same FAQ block can appear on several pages with different questions. Each appearance is a block instance, not a new block type or page template. Adding a standard block does not automatically provide a new feature: a standard enquiry form and a custom approval workflow have different implementation scope.

The package reuses suitable blocks from the existing library. We agree the block selection during scoping; the quiz does not promise a fixed number of unique blocks or unlimited custom block development. A new bespoke block design or behaviour needs a separate allowance.

Example: five pages reusing two templates

  1. Home: home template, using a hero, service cards and a call to action.
  2. About: standard content template, using text, images and team content.
  3. Services: standard content template, using an introduction and service cards.
  4. One service detail: standard content template, using text, images and an FAQ.
  5. Contact: standard content template, using contact details and a standard enquiry form.

This example uses five page addresses and two reusable layout types, within the starter allowance of up to three template types. The blocks are reused and filled with your content. You can select the template count you need; the exact page list, layouts and block selection are agreed before the build.

How the quiz counts your allowance

  • $2,000 and lower: defaults to up to 5 public content pages and 3 reusable template types. Static starter builds start at $1,500; a smaller budget still shows the build-budget gap.
  • From $3,000: defaults to up to 10 public content pages and 3 reusable template types. Umbraco content editing starts at this tier.
  • From $5,000: defaults to up to 20 public content pages and 4 reusable template types.
  • From $10,000: defaults to up to 25 public content pages and 5 reusable template types.
  • Between tiers: the preceding tier applies. For example, $2,500 uses 5 pages and 3 templates; $7,500 uses 20 pages and 4 templates. Above $10,000 the default remains 25 pages and 5 templates.
  • Additional page construction: $250 per page beyond the selected package allowance, using included templates and supplied content, when it fits the build budget.
  • Content generation: optional at $100 per requested core page. This pays for creating the content, separately from constructing pages. You provide business facts and approve the copy. Content generation appears as deferred work when it does not fit the budget.
  • Template selection: choose the default or select a required count. Each additional reusable public-page template beyond the priced allowance costs $400. It is included when it fits the build budget, or shown with its price as deferred work. Existing blocks are reused; bespoke block designs and behaviour require separate scope.
  • AEO answer content: when included, up to three answer pages are added separately to the public page allowance. Those pages reuse the included templates; AEO work is a separate addition.

Your result distinguishes requested counts from included allowances. Default counts select their matching build tier. If you select smaller page and template counts, the quiz can use a cheaper suitable tier rather than charging your entire budget. For example, a $4,000 budget can cover a $3,000 Umbraco build with 10 pages and 3 templates plus $1,000 for content generation, assuming no other additions.

Stores, portals and other content

Online stores: the quiz counts public content pages separately from product records. A catalogue of 25 products is not 25 custom template designs. Product, catalogue, cart and checkout views use the commerce platform’s standard layouts, with configuration confirmed during scoping. The displayed public-template count excludes these standard commerce views. Custom commerce templates and unusual checkout behaviour need separate scope.

Portals: public website pages and templates are counted separately from application screens and workflows. A dashboard or approval screen is not treated as another brochure page at $250. The included first workflow needs discovery; extra workflows and screen designs require a tailored quote.

Email and accessibility: email templates are email layouts, not website page templates. An accessibility assessment’s template coverage is a testing allowance, not a purchase of additional page designs.

What to confirm before the build

Agree the page list, template names, blocks available to editors, supplied or purchased content, product records and any application screens. The written quote should identify extra layouts, custom blocks, integrations and who will populate each page. Hosting remains separate from these build allowances.
